When Kelly Schluckebier was president of the Youth Advisory Council, she probably wasn’t thinking about how that experience would shape her future career. But looking back, it’s clear that her six years as a YACer helped her develop the skills she would need to become the successful financial advisor she is today.
After graduating from MSU, Kelly moved to Indianapolis to work for a mutual fund company. She always knew she would move back to Owosso at some point, so when she heard of an opening on her father’s team at Wells Fargo Advisors* in August of 2017, she jumped at the chance to come back to her hometown.
Kelly says the most important skill she learned in YAC is leadership. Serving on the SCF board, making grant funding decisions, and organizing volunteer activities all contributed to her growth and long-term success in life. “It was a good experience, knowing your opinion is valued by these adults,” she said. Just like our current YACers, Kelly’s favorite activity was buying and wrapping presents for the Christmas Wishes program.
She still bumps into some of the people she served with during her time on the YAC, both in her professional and personal life. When asked what’s been great about coming back to Owosso, Kelly said “Owosso is totally different now than when I was growing up. There’s a lot more stuff going on, and there are more people who value spending time and money in this community. I’ve seen a lot of growth in Owosso.”
